Overview

As the vast library of Android and Arm-Native applications continues to grow, developers need proven systems that provide scalable capacity, reliable performance, and deployment flexibility. Canonical Anbox Cloud on Ampere® Altra® and Ampere® Altra® Max processors offer a powerful, high-energy efficiency, and streamlined platform for running Arm-Native Android applications at scale in the cloud. Designed for a range of use cases including mobile cloud gaming, software application testing, virtual devices, and enterprise mobile applications, Anbox Cloud frees app developers from being constrained by a device’s computing power. With the freedom to offload intensive workloads to the cloud, app developers have more control over performance and infrastructure costs while reducing reliance on individual hardware capability. In addition, data security can be centrally managed rather than across a proliferation of devices. As data shows, we can achieve high instance density of 128 instances at a consistent fps for 720p and 1080p at 30fps and 60fps while using only 45-79 percent of the Altra Max CPU.

Data shown:

  • 3D Game: FPS at different resolutions running at 128 instances
  • CPU Utilization: CPU Utilization at 128 instances of the game tested

Key Benefits

Ampere Altra processors deliver disruptive value for Canonical Anbox Cloud:

  • Cloud Gaming: Designed from the ground up with high core density, Ampere Altra provides high instance density for cloud gaming.
  • Arm native applications: No need for time-consuming recompilation or binary translation for Arm native apps on Android
  • Consistency & predictability: Single-threaded cores running at fixed maximum frequencies ensure linear scaling.
  • Data center class platform: Broad ecosystem with dense GPU platforms, Cloud Native development tools and server class RAS.
  • Best performance per watt: Outstanding TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) – best performance per dollar per application instance vs. solutions of equivalent capacity.

System configurations, components, software versions, and testing environments that differ from those used in Ampere’s tests may result in different measurements than those obtained by Ampere. The system configurations and components used in our testing are detailed here
