Overview

Ampere Cloud-Native processors are designed to deliver exceptional performance and power efficiency for applications like video transcoding. The x.264 library, which implements the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC standard is very widely used today in a variety of video streaming services, runs extremely well on Ampere processors at scale. The relative results of two key performance metrics vs. x86 competitive platforms are shown here in the charts:

  • Performance: Throughput measured in total frames per second
  • Power Efficiency: More Throughput delivered per Watt

Key Benefits

Ampere Altra Max processors deliver disruptive value for the H.264 video codec:

  • Predictable Performance: Up to 2.2x higher frame rates
  • Power Efficiency: Nearly 59% less power consumed at comparable performance
  • Scalability: Up to 66% fewer Altra Max processors required to deliver 10k frames/s

System configurations, components, software versions, and testing environments that differ from those used in Ampere’s tests may result in different measurements than those obtained by Ampere. The system configurations and components used in our testing are detailed here
