Meet Sandy 👋 She's an engineer on the Silicon Validation team, based in Portland, Oregon. We recently had a virtual cup of coffee ☕️ to get to know more about her role and impact at Ampere.
How did you first learn about Ampere?
A recruiter sparked the initial connection, prompting a meet-up to discuss the role. Familiar with Renee James and her impactful tenure at Intel, my interest was piqued. Diving into Ampere's product strategy, I was genuinely impressed, seeing a promising future for the company.
What are three words to describe Ampere?
Ampere embodies ambition, go-getter spirit, and relentlessness! I love being part of this team.
What is something about you that people would be surprised if they knew?
I'm not just an engineer and a scientist in training—I'm also a rock climber and ultramarathon runner! Rock climbing has taught me a big life lesson; when the going gets tough to a point that one starts to panic, I take a deep breath and tell myself that I am going to gracefully get out of this situation with technique and knowledge. Panicking will only result in a fall and possible injuries. Similarly, when I was running the Wonderland trail (97 miles, at 30,000 feet elevation gain) around Mt. Rainier as a self-supported run over three days, instead of stressing about the remaining mileage while I was tired and sore, I learned to just focus on what’s ahead of me and that the tough journey has a definite end.
What's the culture like at Ampere?
Ampere's culture is inclusive, welcoming, and invigorating—an atmosphere where everyone thrives.
What is your favorite ampere value: Integrity & Transparency, Customers First, Discipled Innovation, Action Over Promises, Challenge Your Intellect, Inclusive & Fun Workplace?
My favorite company value is "Action Over Promises" as it resonates deeply with me. Having witnessed industry lapses in meeting milestones, I appreciate Ampere's commitment to working hard and keeping promises, enhancing the company's reputation and a place where I can continue to do my best work.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Balancing time between work, academia, and training for distance running and rock climbing fills my days. Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in ECE with a focus on AI/ML keeps me engaged outside of work. Beyond academia, distance running, mountaineering, and rock climbing aren't just hobbies—they're secondary careers. I've conquered peaks like Mt. Whitney, Shasta, and Rainier and chronicled these adventures on my website, dashertonclimbs.com, contributing to the global climbing community with detailed trip reports and breathtaking pictures.
