Meet Lap Hei Lam 👋 he’s an engineer on the Logic Design Team, based in Portland, Oregon. We recently had a virtual cup of coffee ☕️ to get to know more about his role and impact at Ampere.
Why did you decide to come to Ampere?
During my internship, I recognized the incredible talent that existed at Ampere and the cutting-edge work being done. I’m someone who learns best from getting my hands dirty, so I knew that working at Ampere would give me an amazing learning experience and opportunity to affect the product trajectory. Plus, who wouldn’t want to be part of disrupting an industry heavily mired by legacy?
What has surprised you most about your Ampere experience thus far?
Investment in younger talent. People here are open to giving time and effort to answering questions. Knowledge is king, so it is great that we have access to some of the best engineers in the field and are encouraged to ask them questions when relevant.
What are three words to describe Ampere?
Exciting, ambitious, bold.
What’s the culture like at Ampere?
Human, compassionate, yet ambitious and focused.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Snowboarding, cycling, and reading.
Any advice you’d give to students about who are getting ready to graduate and looking for work?
This is a tough industry, so be prepared for a steep learning curve. For your first job, care more about the learning and skill acquisition, not immediately working on the coolest thing. No work is useless work, it will pay off somewhere along the way.
