The best price-performance compute in the market
OCI and Ampere began our collaboration with the ground-breaking OCI Ampere A1 shapes. We’ve demonstrated the versatility of these shapes on a wide range of workloads from general purpose applications and internal OCI services to the most recently announced and highly demanding use case: Llama3 generative AI services.
Building on this momentum, the recently announced OCI Ampere A2 shapes using our AmpereOne® processors are set to create a new leading benefit in price-performance for the cloud industry across an ever-expanding variety of cloud native workloads and instance types. Internal OCI services from database technology like HeatWave, Oracle DB, Fusion Apps, and more will also take advantage of A2 as the infrastructure rolls out to all regions.
Applications run faster at a fraction of the cost on OCI Ampere based shapes
Currently, our customers are running everything from AI inference, web applications, databases, in-memory caching, and media encoding – all benefiting from Ampere A1 shapes. Typically, they have experienced anywhere from 30-45% better price performance over OCI E4 x86-based shapes. The OCI performance spotlight briefs published regularly over the past 18 months reveal more insight into specific workload benefits.
Our latest offering, Ampere A2, builds on this value proposition. Early testing shows that our customers may see up to 2X better price performance vs the OCI E5 x86-based shapes. This represents an even wider lead for Ampere-based shapes in this generation vs the prior one.
This means considerable cloud savings for enterprises of all sizes on the most popular VMs and containerized applications used today. For example, when deploying a typical web service on OCI Ampere A2, using very popular applications such as MySQL, NGINX, Cassandra and Redis, the savings can be very compelling. An enterprise spending $50M annually across a weighted blend of these popular web service components could save $21.4M in cloud infrastructure costs compared with OCI E5 x86 based shapes. That’s 43% less in infrastructure costs, with a 30% reduction in power consumption, and 33% less carbon emissions.
OCI’s flexible infrastructure, powered by Ampere CPUs, allows businesses to scale their operations effortlessly and efficiently with the Flex Shapes feature, particularly well-suited to Ampere’s high core count single threaded processors. Customers can tune the core count of their shape based on their actual workloads for even more savings. With the energy-efficient design of Ampere CPUs, businesses can also reduce their operational costs through lower power consumption, which is passed on through lower rates per OCPU hour.
