Powered by Ampere®: Mikomax Goes Hybrid from On-prem to MAIN Private Cloud
25 November 2024
Facing the challenge of optimally hosting their new IFS Cloud software, Mikomax, a global office solutions provider, sought a platform delivering uncompromised security, stability, and high performance. After evaluating in-house and outsourced options, Mikomax partnered with MAIN. Their groundbreaking adoption of MAIN’s Private Cloud, utilizing HPE ProLiant RL300 servers powered by Ampere® Altra® processors, guarantees infrastructure reliability and provides "peace of mind."
Mikomax, established in 1991 in Lodz, Poland, specializes in creating bespoke office environments. They design spaces tailored to the unique needs, requirements, and organizational culture of their diverse global clientele. Since 2022, Mikomax has strengthened its international presence by becoming part of Haworth, the world’s third-largest manufacturer and seller of interior design products. This partnership further enhances their capability to deliver innovative and functional office solutions worldwide.
Challenges
Mikomax needed to find the optimal computing solution for their new IFS Cloud software. Their core focus was on ensuring environmental security, stability, and high performance. After a thorough analysis comparing both in-house hosting and various outsourcing options, Mikomax determined that outsourcing to MAIN's Private Cloud was the most effective and optimal path forward.
Solution
MAIN engineered a new IT environment, verified by Mikomax via a successful PoC, leveraging HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 servers with Ampere Altra processors. Mikomax chose MAIN’s Private Cloud for virtualization and Oracle Linux. The production setup includes an Ampere-powered server cluster for high availability and dedicated HPE Alletra Storage MP, marking the first such IFS Cloud implementation in Poland.
Benefits
Migrating to MAIN's professional data center guarantees Mikomax infrastructure reliability, high availability, and consistent IT environment performance. With 24/7 expert support, Mikomax enjoys significant time savings, enhanced resource security, and true "peace of mind." The high performance of Ampere servers and storage dramatically accelerates Oracle databases and data processing on the IFS Cloud platform.
“The PoC was tailored to the client’s requirements, and they appreciated its high performance. Arm64 technology varies from the processors commonly used in data centers, so we paid special attention to the compatibility of the client’s operating systems and applications with Ampere’s CPU technology. We proposed a hybrid environment - virtual servers for Oracle databases placed on dedicated HPE servers powered by Ampere processors, while the rest of the environment runs on a shared environment on VMware vCloud in MAIN - these are both application servers and ones for management and reporting.”
— Wojciech Lewandowski Head of Cloud
Engineering & Operations, MAIN
“The solution offered by MAIN is not only pioneering on a national scale but also perfectly suited to our needs. The high performance of the servers and arrays translates into the speed of Oracle databases and the acceleration of data processing on the IFS Cloud platform.”
— Arkadiusz Szafranski IT,
Director, Mikomax
