WEDOS Enhances Global Cybersecurity by Handling 200,000 Requests per Second with Ampere® Processors
19 September 2024
WEDOS, a leading hosting and cybersecurity provider, faced growing traffic and escalating attack volumes that strained legacy infrastructure and expansion plans. By deploying Ampere® Altra® processors across its global points of presence, WEDOS reengineered capacity and incident response. The upgrade delivered dramatically higher request throughput, lower power consumption, faster PoP deployments, and improved redundancy. These gains helped WEDOS protect customers worldwide more reliably, accelerate global expansion, reduce operating expenses, and improve operational agility.
WEDOS is the Czech Republic's largest hosting provider and a rising leader in global cybersecurity. Specializing in DNS, CDN, and advanced protection, WEDOS secures high-traffic websites, including banks, governments, and enterprises, against DDoS and brute force attacks. Their expertise in managing global Points of Presence (PoPs) and reverse proxy servers ensures business continuity and resilience. Committed to innovation, WEDOS remains a trusted partner, consistently delivering comprehensive, cutting-edge security solutions and maintaining service integrity worldwide.
Challenges
WEDOS had to defend against persistent brute-force attacks while expanding global PoPs cost-effectively. Intel Moonshot servers were inefficient, power-intensive, and bulky, complicating deployment and even load distribution. Customers demanded uninterrupted service during traffic spikes and attacks, so WEDOS needed an energy-efficient, high-core platform that could scale rapidly without ballooning colocation or power costs.
Solution
WEDOS replaced legacy hardware with Ampere Altra processors in HPE ProLiant RL300 servers across its PoPs. High core counts and low power draw with NGINX optimizations boosted efficiency by over 50%. Compact servers reduced colocation costs and enabled faster, redundant PoP deployments, letting WEDOS absorb massive traffic spikes with minimal infrastructure overhead.
Benefits
Ampere Altra processors reduced operational costs by up to 30% through power savings and lower colocation fees. WEDOS’ Barcelona PoP managed 200,000 requests per second at only 3% CPU utilization, ensuring continuity during major attacks. Greater core density and efficiency sped global PoP rollouts, improved response times, and supported WEDOS’ sustainability and scalability objectives.
“Ampere-based processors outperformed our previous systems, allowing us to process 200,000 requests per second with just 3% CPU utilization. The transition was smoother than expected, and the performance gains were immediately apparent. We saw a 30% reduction in operational costs due to lower energy consumption and colocation expenses.
Ampere has been a game-changer for us, improving both the performance and scalability of our cybersecurity solutions. We are excited to continue leveraging Ampere’s technology to safeguard our clients and expand our global footprint.”
