Arm

What is Arm?

Arm (often written ARM) is a power efficient RISC-based CPU architectures and a global IP-licensing ecosystem of IP licensing powering devices from microcontrollers to high-performance servers.

Arm is characterized by three key components:

  • RISC ISA & profiles: clean, energy-efficient instruction set with profiles for application (A), real-time (R), and microcontroller (M) use-cases.
  • IP licensing model: arm licenses core designs or architecture to silicon vendors, enabling diverse implementations.
  • Ecosystem & tooling: broad software support (compilers, runtimes, OS ports) and growing server-class implementations.

Why is Arm important?

Arm’s energy-efficient designs deliver improved battery life and thermal management across mobile, loT and edge. This performance-per-watt leadership is reshaping cloud and server markets, where solutions like Ampere’s processors order sustainable, cost-effective compute for modern data centers.
