The Cloud

What is The Cloud?

The cloud is a model for delivering on-demand computing services - servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence - over the internet, “the cloud”, instead of local servers or personal devices. It enables organizations to consume IT resources as services and to scale capacity up and down with minimal management effort.

Common Service models:

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): virtualized compute, storage, and networking delivered as configurable, on-demand resources.
  • Platform as a Service (PaaS): managed environments for building, deploying, and managing applications.
  • Software as a Service (SaaS): fully managed applications delivered over the web.
  • Deployment variants: Public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud.

Why is The Cloud important?

The cloud shifts how organizations design, build and operate technology, enabling faster innovation, greater agility, and better cost control. Instead of buying and maintaining hardware, teams can consume compute and services as flexible building blocks.

Key benefits:

  • Elastic scalability to meet demand without large upfront investment.
  • Access to managed services and modern development tooling.
  • Improved operational resilience and geographic distribution options.
  • Faster time-to-market for new services and features.
